Sam Coyle is a film director, writer, and producer known for choosing edgy projects. She continues to develop her vision to create unique stories that reflect strong female perspectives with a focus on challenging the norm and highlighting the weird and amazing of the underrepresented. Her work is told with a great sense of empathy and fervour, which brings her films to life through a feeling of naturalism mixed with a subtle, dream-like balance, dipping into the characters’ minds to better understand their perspectives.
Originally studying as an actress at the HB Studio in New York City, she accesses this training through deep exploration with the actors and finding complex human behaviour and relationships in the writing of her scripts.
Sam just completed directing season 2 of the award winning digital series Avocado Toast, streaming on Amazon Prime and OUTtv. She directed the queer reality dating show Dating Unlocked, streaming now on OUTtv. Coyle's directorial debut feature, ‘Hazy Little Thing’ screened at Canadian Film Fest, Calgary Film Fest and Cinefest (2020) and was sold to Super Channel. Her latest project a half-hour show ‘Get Me Outta Here’ is currently in development with Play Media. Coyle is a proud participant of ‘Women in the Directors Chair cohort 22/23’ developing her next feature film, ‘Audrey 2.0’.
